This black blast scoop from late carver R.C. Sands is both typical and slightly unusual for the Ohio carver. The shape is pure Chuck: a thick-walled, muscular, Danish-inspired scoop. However, the stem is a bit of a rare choice. Going back through our catalog, we can only find a handful of pipes with more colorful acrylic stems. This one is a light, sky-ish blue with lighter to white striations. Set against the black stummel, the composition is striking and playful. While the pipe is heavy for a clencher, the sharp bend of the stem and shank makes it less uncomfortable than one might think. A large bowl and open draw make this pipe a capable smoker of any blend that needs some room to shine.
